UNU is a think-tank for the United Nations System and is dedicated to the generation and transfer of knowledge and the strengthening of individual and institutional capacities in furtherance of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations. It began operations in 1975 as an autonomous organ of the United Nations General Assembly.

Nowhere is sustainability more important than in Africa. Sustainability Science's special feature on African Regional Perspectives seeks research contributions with a sharp focus on where particular problems have the greatest effect, and how regional constraints and opportunities will affect possible solutions.
A workshop on "Emotions in a Globalized World" was held at United Nations headquarters in New York last month by the UNU Institute for Sustainability and Peace (UNU-ISP), and the Institut d'Etudes politiques et internationals at the University of Lausanne.
The conference will bring together practitioners, developers and researchers from government, academia, industry and non-governmental organizations to share the latest findings in the theory and practice of Electronic Governance.
UNU and Vietnam National University intend to enhance coordination of their work and strengthen cooperation in education and research, especially in the field of sustainable development.
The United Nations University, hosting the Secretariat of the StEP Initiative is inviting applications for the NVMP-StEP E-waste Summer School 2010. Doctoral students, final year master students and post-docs currently researching on e-waste and related areas are invited to apply for the second NVMP-StEP E-waste Summer School.
